Great Bush Quote

2007/09/20/1635

RTFA: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070920/ap_on_re_us/je…

“The events in Louisiana have saddened me,” the president told reporters at the White House. “All of us in America want there to be, you know, fairness when it comes to justice.”

You know, fairness is kinda important to justice…

New YouTube skin?

New to me, at least. It’s definitely cleaner. A lot of community functionality is taken out of the interface and moved to the text space, immediately below the video window.

FOXNews.com - Senate Votes to Condemn MoveOn for Ad Attacking General Petraeus

2007/09/20/1341

RTFA: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297498,00.html

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly passed a measure condemning MoveOn.org for a newspaper ad it ran last week attacking Gen. David Petraeus. The move came as President Bush accused Democrats of cowering to the liberal political action group.

The measure passed in a 72-25 vote, with none of the Democratic presidential candidates supporting it. Sponsored by Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, never one to shy away from forcing Democrats to go on record on politically sticky issues, the amendment to the defense authorization bill did win the backing of 23 Democrats.

Why the fuck is the senate voting on this shit? Thank White American Jesus we now have on the defense authorization bill an amendment which basically says “moveon.org you suck”, with absolutely no consequences for anyone. Thanks for wasting time & tax money congress. Maybe RTFA should make an ad attacking / shitting on congress and get onto a health insurance bill!

O’Reilly: Tasered UF student “biggest wimp in the United States of America”

2007/09/20/1306

RTFA: http://mediamatters.org/items/200709190009?f=h_lat…

during a September 17 campus forum, Bill O’Reilly asserted: “I’ve been tasered for a story, and all I can say is: He is the biggest wimp in the United States of America.” O’Reilly added: “And I don’t say that with any kind of bravado, but the overreaction to being tasered — it’s not — it’s an electrical shock is what it is.”

YouTube - Ron Paul on the Internet and Freedom

2007/09/20/1303

RTFA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c76yeqQY2ms

Ron Paul takes a moment to talk about the Internet. I depend on the Internet for day-to-day tasks, and all of my peers do too. I hope that Ron Paul doesn’t oppose any form of net neutrality regulation. It’s possible that collusion needs to be actively prevented - I’m not sure US utilities companies have proven that they can responsibly deliver the best service at the best rates.

On the one hand, I strongly support a separation of Internet and Government. On the other hand, I do think the Internet must be tended and cultivated. The ultimate fear is FCC-style regulations that limit the ability of individuals to publish online.

Well, that got me thinking about a good story. You see, for about four centuries after Jesus died, early Christians hid their religion from the Roman empire. If you spoke out, the Romans would feed you to the lions. Christians were forced to pray in secret, and they buried their dead in vast, underground catacombs. Well, then in 391, Theodosius the Great made Christianity the official Roman religion. Now there are 2 billion Christians on this planet.

Ebay: Hardwood floor with Mary & Baby Jesus image - $10,000

2007/09/20/1201

ebay item

First the story behind these photos. My 15 yr old child starting losing his balance in 2005. After getting several medical opinions we found out he would need surgery on the C-Spine to keep from being paralyzed for the rest of life. The surgery went well but after a year he started to deterioate to the point he could hardly breathe. The doctors said they could find nothing more wrong and we were at our wits end afraid he wouldnt be with us much longer. One night while I was in the bathroom (thats where these photos are from) I looked down and saw what looked like a woman holding a baby. I thought nothing of it until I saw the halo above her head and thought could this be a sign of hope. I told my wife about it but she thought I was crazy until she saw for herself. Needless to say I prayed in that room for quite some time for help. I also noticed the donkey and what seems to be three men praying next to the figure and I hadnt noticed them before. About two weeks later while on a routine Drs visit the Physician said he wanted us to meet another Dr who thought he knew what was wrong with our son and with his help convinced the surgeons to operate even though they couldnt find anything new.

ABC News: Dry Cleaners in $54M Pants Suit Closes

2007/09/20/1146

RTFA: http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3625342&page…

The owners of a dry cleaning store, sued for $54 million over a lost pair of pants, have been forced to close their store because of the financial and emotional toll of the lawsuit, their lawyer said Wednesday.

I feel really bad for these folks. The American legal system is obviously flawed, but at least they won the trial.

ABC News: Prosecutor in Sex Sting Tried Suicide

RTFA: http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/wireStory?id=3629448

A federal prosecutor from Florida who authorities say flew to Michigan for a sexual encounter with a 5-year-old girl tried to hang himself in his jail cell Thursday but was stopped in time, the county sheriff said.

This sick fuck should have known better… Of course it was an undercover cop. I have trouble believing five year olds spend time on internet chatrooms. Also, how did he plan on getting the child away from the parents? The whole thing is just totally insane.

PlaySpan Takes $6.5m Series A, Founder In Grade 6

2007/09/20/0953

RTFA: http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/09/19/playspan-take…

Virtual world goods seller PlaySpan has received $6.5 million Series A in a round led by Easton Capital, Menlo Ventures, STIC and Novel TMT Ventures.

PlaySpan hasn’t launched yet, but is promising a product that will attempt to be an official commerce provider for multiple MMOGs. According to PlaySpan, the company has already signed up seven MMOG partners

The interesting side of PlaySpan is with the background story: PlaySpan was founded by Arjun Mehta (pictured) , a 6th grader from Silicon Valley who founded the company from money earned selling online game items won from quests he fought while attending 5th grade at Challenger School in San Jose.

I found this comment particularly insightful: “These 10 year old, 6 grader stuff is all a front to making news … rest assured the real people behind these things are adults, but just as in the case of myyearbook.com, nothing beats getting into the major news and blogs than having your 10 year kind be stated as the founder/creator.

A 6th grader, can’t even legally enter into a binding contract in any state, so obviously there are adults behind this and any other venture supposedly started by teens.”

Weird Russian Mind-Control Research Behind Homeland Security Contract

2007/09/20/0939

RTFA: http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2007/0…

MOSCOW — The future of U.S. anti-terrorism technology could lie near the end of a Moscow subway line in a circular dungeon-like room with a single door and no windows. Here, at the Psychotechnology Research Institute, human subjects submit to experiments aimed at manipulating their subconscious minds.

Elena Rusalkina, the silver-haired woman who runs the institute, gestured to the center of the claustrophobic room, where what looked like a dentist’s chair sits in front of a glowing computer monitor. “We’ve had volunteers, a lot of them,” she said, the thick concrete walls muffling the noise from the college campus outside. “We worked out a program with (a psychiatric facility) to study criminals. There’s no way to falsify the results. There’s no subjectivism.”

YouTube - Analysis of tasered UF student; hushed talk

2007/09/20/0925

RTFA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOlmNBxke-E

Taser A story of hushed talked and hand signals.

Interesting video! This clearly depicts that, at a certain point, a plainclothes individual tells the police when to assault the kid. It seems to be the Skull and Bones question that made them cut his microphone. That was what made them decide to tackle him.

The decider

So who, exactly, is this guy? The decider. He knows when you’ve used up all your free speech.
