“Low Road” addresses false and debunked attack ads that have recently run on television. On the air…

Don’t get me wrong - this isn’t an endorsement of Obama, but it is a denouncement of Baloney McCain.

Obama’s Religion - Behind the Numbers

2008/07/30/1502

RTFA: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/behind-the-numbers/…

Fox News asked the question in a decidedly different manner in their new poll, but the answers were generally similar: “Some people believe Barack Obama, despite his professed Christianity, is secretly a Muslim. Others say that is just a rumor and Obama really is a Christian as he says, and point out he’s attended a Christian church for years. What do you believe — is Obama a Muslim or a Christian?” Fifty-seven percent answered Christian, 10 percent Muslim, 5 percent volunteered some other religion and 27 percent expressed no opinion.

Two surveys: one from the Wall Street Journal/NBC, and one from Fox. The WSJ/NBC Survey asked, “Do you know what Barak Obama’s religion is?” Above is the wording of the Fox survey. For comparison, WSJ/NBC reported that 8 percent believed Obama was Muslim.

What I hope to take from this is that people are growing a little more cynical about the Fox approach, and I base this on the results from these two surveys. When comparing the wording of the questions, the Fox agenda is immediately clear. Really, Fox asks if people believe the myth, and it’s astonishing that 1 out of 10 people do. However, even after being asked such a leading question, the difference from the WSJ/NBC poll is just 2 percent.

Even so, that’s still 2 percent, and these would amount to millions of people at the polls.

The Cost of Empire « Jon Taplin’s Blog

2008/07/30/1224

RTFA: http://jtaplin.wordpress.com/the-cost-of-empire/

It is of course one of the defining articles of faith of the conservative movement that Reagan militarily spent the Soviets into bankruptcy. But it is a Big Lie. Of course the Soviet economy was a hollowed out shell in 1989, but it also held an extrordinary number of assets including one of the world’s largest oil reserves and an well educated work force. Freed from the need to compete in an arms race, the Russians were able to turn their talents to business. Today, the Russian central bank and the Central Bank of China, our other cold war foe, now control over 20% of the U.S. Treasury debt, and we control none of theirs. Exactly who spent who into bankruptcy?

Interesting point, but Taplin’s essay is LOADED with many such insights. This is well worth the read, although you won’t find some magic-bullet solution in the closing paragraphs. Consider these details, and arrive at your own conclusion.

RAND Research Brief | How Terrorist Groups End: Implications for Countering al Qa’ida

2008/07/30/1150

RTFA: http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB9351/in…

How do terrorist groups end? The evidence since 1968 indicates that terrorist groups rarely cease to exist as a result of winning or losing a military campaign. Rather, most groups end because of operations carried out by local police or intelligence agencies or because they join the political process. This suggests that the United States should pursue a counterterrorism strategy against al Qa’ida that emphasizes policing and intelligence gathering rather than a “war on terrorism” approach that relies heavily on military force.

…paid for by your tax dollars, this RAND report is a counterpoint to McCain’s 100-year military occupation of Iraq.

Of course, the word on the street is that the party is moving back to Afghanistan.

Iran: You Suck At Photoshop.

2008/07/10/1155

Unfortunately, it appeared to contain one too many missiles, a point that had not emerged before the photo appeared on the front pages of The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, The Chicago Tribune and several other newspapers as well as on BBC News, MSNBC, Yahoo News, NYTimes.com and many other major news Web sites.

Agence France-Presse said that it obtained the image from the Web site of Sepah News, the media arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, on Wednesday. But there was no sign of it there later in the day. Today, The Associated Press distributed what appeared to be a nearly identical photo from the same source, but without the fourth missile.

Wow, good catch! After taking a closer look at the image, it does appear doctored.

Reiser tells authorities he strangled his wife during argument - Inside Bay Area

2008/07/08/0832

RTFA: http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/ci_981…

Convicted killer Hans Reiser has admitted that he strangled his estranged wife Nina Reiser during a argument while his children played unaware in another part of the house in the Oakland hills, sources familiar with the investigation told the Oakland Tribune today.

Handcuffed to his attorney, Reiser led authorities Monday to what he says are the remains of his missing wife, Nina Reiser. The body was buried in a 4-foot-deep hole in the Oakland hills.

Sources said the murder occurred Sept. 3, 2006, the last day Nina Resier was seen alive. It still isn’t clear when Reiser moved her body, but he said he wrapped her body in sheets of plastic and later carried her in a duffel bag and carried to her unmarked grave.

WHOAH!!!! The gig is up… Reiser did it, after all. Damn…

ADrive Version 1.0 Release Tonight

The ADrive Team has been working around the clock to release our version 1.0. Our scheduled release will take place tonight. Once again, we will need your cooperation while we upgrade our systems, as we will require another maintenance window of a few hours starting on July 1, 2008 at 10pm PDT. During this time, you will not be able to access your ADrive account. Once we have completed our upgrade, ADrive will be back online and you can continue to enjoy all the ADrive features.

The release of ADrive version 1.0 will not affect your current account or files in anyway; users will still enjoy 50GB of free online storage. As an added feature, all users will be able to download the ADrive Backup Client to their desktop for free. Users will also have the option of upgrading to either our Signature or Premium accounts. These paid plans offer SSL encryption for all data transfers, WebDAV, multiple concurrent sessions, and 24/7 support among other features.

So my friends over at adrive launched Version 1.0 today and damn, there are some cool features. My favorite being webdav, encryption, and a desktop app. And, as always, 50Gb of online storage for free is insane!
